About PlantCareLab
PlantCareLab is a small, free reference for keeping common houseplants alive — and keeping them out of trouble around pets. It started from two very ordinary problems: overwatering plants to death, and never remembering which ones are toxic to a curious cat or dog.
What it does
Every plant page answers the same practical questions in plain language: how often to water, how much light it wants, how fussy it is, and whether it's safe around cats and dogs. The watering calculator turns those general guidelines into a realistic “water every X–Y days” range based on your light, season, pot size and humidity — because a fixed number on a care tag is usually wrong for your home.
Where the data comes from
Pet-safety labels (safe / toxic / unconfirmed for cats and dogs) reflect the ASPCA's toxic and non-toxic plant classifications. Watering ranges come from established houseplant-care principles adjusted for the conditions you select. This is general information to help healthy plants thrive — it is not veterinary advice. If a pet chews a plant, keep it out of reach and call your vet or a pet poison control line right away.
How it's run
No account or email is needed to use anything here. There are no pop-ups begging for a sign-up and no content walls. The project is deliberately small and kept up to date rather than sprawling and abandoned — the goal is a page you can trust in ten seconds, not another plant blog.
